Franklin D. Roosevelt East River Drive is the name of a very scenic route in the heart of New York City, in the US state of New York.

How long is FDR Drive?

The road, commonly known as FDR Drive, is 15km (9 miles) long running along the eastern border of Manhattan. It’s totally paved and passes by six bridges, offering great views of Brooklyn. The drive takes you up along Manhattan until you reach the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge. The FDR Drive has a maximum 40 MPH speed limit and covers four major Manhattan districts (Downtown, Midtown, Upper East Side, Uptown).

When was FDR Drive built?

Built during World War II, the road is open to passenger cars only: height restrictions apply. Today it’s one of the most important routes in New York City surrounding the entire east side of Manhattan. It was originally named East River Drive, and was renamed after Franklin Delano Roosevelt. The drive was featured in Live and Let Die (1973).
