An epic enthralling road to Bolan Peak in OR

Bolan Peak is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 1.902m (6,240ft) above the sea level, located in Josephine County, in the U.S. state of Oregon.

Bolan Peak

Set high in the Rogue-River Siskiyou National Forest, the road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s called Forest Road 535. It’s navigable by passenger vehicles, however, a high clearance vehicle is recommended. The last part is gated.
The summit hosted a lookout built in 1953. But it burned during the 2020 Slater Fire. It is a total loss. The road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). The open and close dates all depend on snowmelt and snowfall each year. The summit offers expansive views of the Red Buttes and Siskiyou Wilderness areas, Preston Peak and Bolan Lake.
