The road through the pass is totally paved and in good condition. It’s called MT-278. The drive is steep, hitting a 9% maximum gradient through some of the ramps. At this elevation, it’s the highest point on the road.

The road through the pass is 97 km (60 miles) long, running north-southeast from Wisdom to Dillon (the county seat of Beaverhead County). The drive provides spectacular views of the Pioneer Mountain Range.
