Driving the wild San Isidro Canyon Road

Cañon de San Isidro is a very scenic canyon in the Mexican state of Nuevo León. This is definitely one road trip that you want to record with lots of photographs. Landslides can occur anytime and can sometimes block some sections of the road.

The road through the canyon is totally paved. It’s called NL 20. It’s 36.1 km long, and links the villages of Laguna de Sánchez and El Cercado. The journey offers an exhilarating driving experience, with superb views. It will have you absorbed in its contrasts between sky and mountain. The road climbs up to  1.927m (6,322ft) above the sea level.
It traverses a deep canyon cutting huge mountains, which generates huge walls in both sides of 700-800 meters high! Pictures don't make justice or can fit into one image to see the monstrosity. This road traverses the canyon at an avarage of 1.450 meters above the sea level. This section can be dangerous in rainy season, due the river is right next to the road. It can grow up and be a threat for the traffic. Mudslides and rock falling can be a great danger.
