Fog and Bad Weather on the Road to Paso de la Muerte

Death Pass (Paso de la Muerte in Spanish) is a terrible high mountain road linking the small community of Conrado Castillo to the rest of the state of Tamaulipas, in Mexico.

Paso de la Muerte

How Challenging is the Paso de la Muerte Road?

Located near the Nuevo León border, in the eastern part of the country, this road is particularly dangerous due to the constant fog and bad weather conditions. Narrow segments (impassable for 2 cars at the same time) and a steep grade make it a great challenge to drive.

Is the Paso de la Muerte Road Unpaved?

The road is totally unpaved. A single error in judgment here could lead to a fatal plunge. The edge of the road gives way to an unguarded drop of hundreds of meters. This route is truly beyond words, and even photographs struggle to capture its sheer intensity.
