Is Michoacán Coastal Road worth it?

The route, a stretch of Mexico 200, is fully paved and provides panoramic vistas of the sea's pristine beaches and craggy cliffs. This journey meanders through untouched tropical beaches, with some easily visible alongside the road, while others are subtly viewed from afar or from the elevated terrains as the road weaves its way through the Sierra Madre hills. This drive remains largely undiscovered, primarily because it's located in a region of Mexico that's off the beaten path, away from the usual tourist hotspots.

How long is Michoacán Coastal Road?

The route spans 249 km (154 miles), extending from Coahuayana de Hidalgo to Lázaro Cárdenas in the southern part of the Michoacán state in Mexico. It has been reported that this path is often used by drug traffickers to transport marijuana crops. For safety reasons, it's generally advised not to travel this road after dark. Historically, there have been several reports of nighttime robberies, particularly since the route traverses some isolated areas.
