How to get by car to the summit of Whistler Mountain in BC?
Whistler Mountain is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2,175 m (7,135 ft) above sea level, located in British Columbia, in Canada. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.
 
 Where is Whistler Mountain?
The peak is located about 120 km (75 miles) north of Vancouver, near the village of Whistler, in the southwestern part of the country, within the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District, in Garibaldi Provincial Park. The mountain was developed into a ski area beginning in 1966 and became a key part of the Whistler Blackcomb resort, now one of the most visited ski destinations in the world. It is connected to Blackcomb Mountain by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, which spans a record-breaking distance and height, offering stunning panoramic views.
Why is it called Whistler Mountain?
Originally known as London Mountain (due to frequent fog and clouds), the name was changed to Whistler Mountain in the 1960s, inspired by the whistling sound of the hoary marmots that inhabit the slopes.
Is the road to Whistler Mountain unpaved?
The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It’s a chairlift access road. 4x4 vehicles only due to its steepness. This shelf road features very narrow parts and dangerous drops.
Is the road to Whistler Mountain open in winter?
Set high in the Fitzsimmons Range of the Garibaldi Ranges, the road is totally impassable in winter.
