Set high between the mountain ranges of the Glyderau and the Snowdon massif, the steep road is totally unpaved, with rocks all the way. The drive offers stunning views along the shores of Llyn Teyrn and Llyn Glaslyn and running across the Llyn Llydaw lake. This track was built during the last century to serve the Britannia Copper Mines, abandoned in 1917.

Located within the Snowdonia National Park, a 4x4 vehicle is required. The rocky road is 5.14km (3.2 miles) long, running from the car park at Pen-y-Pass to Pyg Track. The last 0.3 miles are a walking path. Surrounded by mountains and associated with Arthurian legends, the track ends at 757m (2,483ft) above the sea level.
