Çimenli Geçidi

An epic paved road to Çimenli Geçidi in Turkey

Çimenli Geçidi is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.337m (7,667ft) above the sea level located in the Erzurum Province in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey.

The road to the summit is totally paved. It’s called D955. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters due to dangerous weather conditions. It is difficult to keep the pass open to traffic during the winters because of the harsh weather conditions due to high altitude.

The road is 77km (48 miles) long, running south-north from Esendere to Oltu. The road to the summit is very steep, hitting a 9% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
