Uzungöl Lake is a mountain lake at an elevation of 1.125m (3,690ft) above the sea level located south of the city of Trabzon, in the Çaykara district of Trabzon Province, Turkey.
The winding road to the lake is gravel and very challenging. It starts from the spectacular and dangerous Bayburt Of Yolu-D915. It’s 28,8km long and includes more than 30 hairpin turns. This is definitely not a Sunday drive. Drive with care as this is a mountain road with dangerous dropoffs. Open to traffic throughout the year, may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. It suffers the harsh meteorological conditions of the area every winter. The road does get busier at weekends and in the main holiday season.
The surface of the road is gravel leading the traveler over the mountains. The surrounding greenery of the mountain forests and fog, occasionally enveloping the lake at night, also add to the scenery. Near the lake there’s a village with hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
