
A Most Tricky Scenic Road to Samistal Plateau
Samistal is a high mountain plateau at an elevation of 2.838m (9,311ft) above the sea level, located in the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize province, in Turkey. It’s one of the highest roads on Europe.
Nestled in the Kaçkar Mountains range, the road to the plateau is totally unpaved. It’s called Amlakit-Samistal Yolu. It’s a dangerous winding road, pretty narrow, with drop offs.
Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. The road to the summit is pretty steep. Starting from Yaylaköy, the road to the summit is 21km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 937 meters. The average gradient is 4.46%.
