The road is totally unpaved and steep, with very narrow parts. 4x4 vehicle required. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season. The drive is rather remote. It tops out at 2.927m (9,603ft) above the sea level. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.

The road is 19.1 km (11.86 miles) long, running west-east from Demirkapı, one of the most remote mountain towns of Trabzon province, towards Ballıköy, a mountain village in Rize Province.
