Tälligrattunnel

Driving the wild Tälligrattunnel

Tälligrattunnel is a high mountain tunnel located in the canton of Valais in Switzerland.

The road to the tunnel is gravel, narrow and pretty steep. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). The tunnel, built in the 1980’s, is a kilometre long shortcut beneath the mountain and passes under the Tälligrat mountain. Located in the Swiss Alps, the tunnel was originally intended to channel the waters of the Märjelensee into the valley. The tunnel northern portal is at 2.352m above the sea level, and its southern portal at 2.347m.
