The peak, also known as Rothorn, is located in the southern part of the country. It offers stunning views of Zermatt, a mountain resort renowned for skiing, climbing, and hiking.

Is the road to Unterrothorn unpaved?

The road to the summit is totally unpaved and very challenging, as it comprises extremely steep sections. It’s a chairlift access trail. A 4x4 vehicle is required. It’s closed to private vehicles.

How long is the road to Unterrothorn?

Starting from Zermatt, the road to the summit is about 6km (3.72 miles) long.

Is the road to Unterrothorn open in winter?

Set high in the Swiss Pennine Alps, the road is totally impassable in winters. It’s one of the highest roads in the country.
