A steep paved road to Lake Göscheneralp

Göscheneralpsee is a high mountain reservoir at an elevation of 1.786m (5,859ft) above the sea level, located in the Canton of Uri, Switzerland.

Located in the Urner Alps, the road to the reservoir is paved. It’s pretty narrow and steep. The road heads up the narrow Göschenen Valley. Open to traffic throughout the year, may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. The road to the dam is a bit narrow at some places that demands careful driving but the thrill is guaranteed.

Starting from Göschenen, the road is 9.6 km (5.96 mile) long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 680 meters. The average gradient is 7.08%, hitting a 12.0% of maximum gradient in parts.
