Strada Alpe Piora

Strada Alpe Piora, a challenging road in the Swiss Alps

Strada Alpe Piora is the name of a very challenging road located in the Northern region of Canton Ticino, in Switzerland.

The road is paved. It’s 8.4 km (5.21 miles) long starting north of Quinto. The road is extremely challenging and scary, totally impassable for 2 cars at the same time. Not an easy drive. It ends on a parking lot, at 1.926m (6,318ft) above the sea level, on the southern shore of Lago Cadagno.

Set high in the Swiss Alps, within the Piora Valley, the road is closed to cars and bikes from 9 to 17h. It’s very steep, hitting a 24% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. It offers stunning views of Lago Ritom, running along its northern shore.
