The pass connects Val Cavargna (in the Italian province of Como) and Val Colla in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Near the summit of the pass, there is a 14th-century church and several refuge huts.

Is the road to San Lucio Pass unpaved?

The road to the summit is completely unpaved. While a 4x4 vehicle is recommended, a high-clearance vehicle may be sufficient in good weather. The road offers a wonderfully panoramic route. Although it is never particularly difficult or exposed, it becomes very steep in the final section.

The road is 4.1 km (2.54 miles) long, running east-west from Strada Provinciale 11 (SP11) north of Val Rezzo (in Italy) to Alpe Cottino, a mountain hut (in Switzerland). It is closed to private vehicles but remains fully drivable.
