The pass is located in the comarca of Alt Urgell, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, in the north-eastern part of the country, near the French border. Near the summit there’s a small mountain refuge known as Refugi Forestal del Coll Midós
Is the road to Coll Midós unpaved?
The road to the summit is totally unpaved. It's called Carretera d'Arànser a Bescaran. The road is locally known as Route of the Cars, due to the number of abandoned cars along the way. A high-clearance vehicle is required. The road is not easy, with 10 hairpin turns. It comprises narrow parts and very steep sections. It is closed to private vehicles.
How long is the road to Coll Midós?
The road to the summit is 16km long, running west-east from Bescaran to the Aransa ski resort. The road runs along a high mountain environment typical of the Pyrenees area.
Is the road to Coll Midós open year-round?
Set high in the Pyrenees mountain range, the road is recommended from late spring to early fall, since you´ll go through mountain roads where there is often snow.
