Located within the Las Ubiñas-la Mesa, Reserva de la Biosfera Natural Park, in the central area of the Cantabrian Mountains, the road to the summit is unpaved, with some concrete sections on the steepest parts. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Open to traffic throughout the year, may be closed for short periods in winter when the weather is bad. The pass is also known as Braña La Cueva. Strongly required making your way though with a high-clearance 4WD vehicle. Only travel on this road when it is dry. As always, check road conditions before departing. It is a land of great beauty, especially ideal for nature lovers. The scenery is stunning and you will be blown away by its beauty. Starting from Villamarcel, a small town, the drive is 5.4 km long with 6 hairpin turns. The road ends near the summit, on a small lake known as Lagunas de Canchongo.
