The road to the summit, located within the Teide National Park, is totally unpaved (in good conditions) and closed to private vehicles. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. 4x4 vehicle required. The wind is usually quite strong at mountain areas. High winds blow here all year long. At the summit is a weather observatory.
