Where is Malniu Refuge?

The refuge is located in comarca of Cerdanya, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, in the northeastern part of the country. Near the hut there’s a mountain lagoon known as Estanyol de Tarterès. It's named after the nearby Estany de Malniu.

Is the road to Malniu Refuge unpaved?

The road to the refuge is totally unpaved, narrow and steep. It’s called Carretera dels Estanys. A 4x4 vehicle is required. The road is closed to private vehicles. From the refuge it is highly recommended to visit the famous Malniu Lake.

How long is the road to Malniu Refuge?

Starting from the town of Girul, at 1.710masl, the road to the refuge is 7 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 421m and the average gradient is 6.01%. It’s open year-round but short-time closures in winters are common.
