Refugi Malniu
Refugi Malniu is a high mountain hut at an elevation of 2.131m (6,991ft) above the sea level, located in the Catalan comarca of Cerdanya, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, northern Spain. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
The road to the summit is gravel. It’s called Carretera dels Estanys. Weather conditions can change quickly and be harsh. Road closures can be frequent. Only travel on this road when it is dry. From the refuge it is highly recommended to visit the famous Malniu Lake. The road to the hut is pretty steep. Starting from the town of Girul, at 1.710masl, the ascent is 7.0 km. Over this distance the elevation gain is 421 meters. The average gradient is 6.01%.
