The road to the summit is totally unpaved, narrow, and very steep. 4x4 vehicles only. Starting from Bérchules, the road is 18.1 km (11.2 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1,190 m and the average gradient is 6.57%.

Is the road to Peñón del Muerto open in winter?

Set high in the Sierra Nevada range, the road is usually impassable in winter due to heavy snowfalls.
