The road to the summit is a wide, hard-packed dirt road with loose stones and gravel. The road features narrow parts, steep sections and 23 hairpin turns.

Can I drive my vehicle to Nuevo Mundo?

It doesn't require an extreme 4x4 with low-range gears, but you do need a vehicle with decent ground clearance. The track consists of hard-packed dirt and fine gravel, though there are medium-sized loose stones along the edges and noticeable cross-rutting caused by water runoff. A standard, low-clearance city car could easily scrape its underbody or lose traction if the grade gets steep. A high-clearance SUV or an all-wheel-drive vehicle will clear it easily in dry conditions. If it rains or gets muddy, things change and a 4x4 becomes compulsory.

How long is the road to Nuevo Mundo?

Starting from the paved AL-4401 road near Canjáyar, the road to the summit is 23.9 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 1488 m and the average gradient is 6.22%.
