Estany de la Coma d'Amitges
Estany de la Coma d'Amitges is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 2.382m (7,814ft) above the sea level, located in the Pyrenees, in Catalonia, Spain. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
The road to the summit, located within the Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici, is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. At the summit there’s a mountain refuge. 4x4 required. No personal vehicles are allowed in the national park, only the local "taxis", which are all either Jeeps or Land Rovers. Stay away if you're scared of heights.
Expect a trail very steep. Wet conditions may make for tough driving along the muddy road. The road is totally impassable in winters. At the heart of winter the road is covered by ice and snow and can be very dangerous! Great trail for experienced wheelers. Avoid driving in this area if unpaved mountain roads aren't your strong point.
