The inhumane climb to Miradoiro do Ézaro
Mirador de Ézaro is a mountain pass at an elevation of 268m (879ft) above the sea level, located in northwestern Spain in the province of A Coruña, in the autonomous community of Galicia. It’s one of the steepest roads that a Spanish bike race has ever tackled where you directly ride against uphill over a huge rock.
The road to the summit is called DP-2308. It’s asphalted with some concrete sections. This road has humbled many egos. It’s not for the sissies and shouldn’t be attempted by novice drivers. At the summit there’s a parking and a lookout.
The brutal climb has been included several times in the Spanish Vuelta. Starting from Ezaro, the ascent is 1.8 km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 264 meters. The average percentage is 14.6 % but the maximum slope is 28 %. It’s rated as one of the steepest climbs ever in the history of the Vuelta, even harder than anything the much-feared Angliru can offer.
