Puerto El Peñón, a delightful yet challenging road to the summit

Puerto El Peñón is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.840m (6,036ft) above the sea level, located on the boundary of León and Zamora provinces, in Castile and León, Spain.

The road to the summit is called ZA-P-2665. It is asphalted, but in very poor conditions, with potholes due the snow. It suffers the harsh meteorological conditions of the area every winter. The road is usually patched every spring or summer as winter produces large holes.

The summit is also known as Alto del Peñón or Puerto de Vizcodillo. The climbs is pretty steep, with sections up to 12.0%. The pass links the towns of Truchillas and Doney de la Requejada.
