Tucked away in the Pyrenees, a mountain range on the border between France and Spain, the pass links the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in south-western France and the province and autonomous community of Navarre, in northern Spain. The road is 11.2 km (6.95 miles) long, running south-north from Orbaizeta (a Spanish town) to the D428 road (in France).

The road to the summit is totally paved with concrete and the French/Spanish border is situated at the summit. The drive is very steep. It’s extremely narrow and the views on the summit are like a lunar landscape.
