A 4x4 road to Collada de la Gallina

Collada de la Gallina is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.912m (6,272ft) above the sea level, located in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, in Andorra, near the Spanish border. It is a very demanding climb hitting a 14.5% through some of the ramps.

Located on the eastern Pyrenees mountain range, the road to the summit is totally paved. It’s usually open from April to November. The climb has been featured in the Spanish Vuelta race. The pass is 14.4 km long, with 33 hairpin turns and numerous sections above 14.5%, running from Bixessarri to Fontaneda. There is very little traffic on the climb.

Starting from St Julià de Lòria, the ascent is 12 km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1019 meters. The average gradient is 8.5%. And starting from Bixessarri, the ascent is 11.8 km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 975 meters. The average gradient is 8.3%.

On the Spanish side, a narrow unpaved road climbs up the summit. 4x4 vehicle required. It’s 4.2 km long, running from Civís a village in Catalonia, northern Spain. Over this distance the elevation gain is 385 meters. The average gradient is 9.16%.
