The lake is located in the northern part of the country, within the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, one of the fourteen Spanish National Parks. There’s a mountain refuge at the lake with room for 47 people.

The winding road to the lake is pretty challenging, with narrow and steep parts. It’s mostly paved for the first 7.7 km with concrete sections. The final 4 km are totally unpaved and suitable for 4x4 vehicles only.

How long is the road to Estany Llong?

The narrow road to the lake is closed to vehicles during certain periods. The drive offers stunning views of the Pyrenees range and Estany de Llebreta (Llebreta Lake). Starting from the L500 road, the ascent is 11.9 km (7.39 miles) long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 695 meters, with an average gradient of 5.84%.
