How long is the road through Desfiladero de Aliaga?

The road through the gorge is 12 km (7.45 miles) long, running west–east from Hinojosa de Jarque to Aldehuela, near a reservoir known as Embalse de Aliaga. Set high in the Sierra de San Just mountain range, La Aldehuela neighborhood was built in the late 1940s to house the workers of the thermal power plant. The thermal power plant began operating in 1950. It used water from the reservoir for its closed-loop cooling system and received coal from the mines via wagons transported by overhead cables. In 1958, a third generator was added to increase the plant's power output, but the local mines failed to supply enough coal, so the fuel had to be transported by road from other nearby mining areas. The plant ceased operations in 1982.
