Driving the defiant N260 through Congosto de Jánovas, the narrowest National Road in Spain

Congosto de Jánovas is the name of a very scenic canyon located in the province of Huesca, Sobrarbe comarca, in Aragon, an autonomous community of Spain.

Set high in the Ordesa y Monte Perdido National Park, within the Pyrenees mountain range, the road through the gorges carved by the Ara River, is totally paved. It’s called N-260 (Eje Pirenaico). The road is locally known as Ruta del Retrovisor (Rearview Route).

Tucked away on the northwestern part of the country, the old narrow uneven road which follows the Ara river valley is 19.5 km (12.11 miles) long, running west-east from Fiscal to Boltaña. It’s totally impassable for 2 big vehicles are the same time. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. It's the narrowest national road in Spain. Summer time is a nightmare with thousands of tourists.

With hundreds of turns, tunnels, and steep parts, the road features a high risk of rock slides. Speed limit is 40km/h. Running along the road, Mirador de Janovas is a natural viewpoint with stunning views of the gorges.
