The Ultimate Guide to Traveling Foces del Rio Somiedo

Foces del Rio Somiedo is the name of a very scenic drive located in the autonomous community of Asturias, in northern Spain. It’s one of the most scenic canyon roads of Spain.

Tucked away within the Somiedo Natural Park, the road through the canyon is paved. It was widened and totally paved in 2010.

The road is called AS-227, also known as Carretera San Martín - El Puerto or C-633 road. It was named Via Escrita on ancient times and runs through Somiedo canyon, an imposing gorge created by the karst erosion of the waters of the Somiedo river.

The drive is 12.7 km (7.89 miles) long, running from Aguasmestas to Pola de Somiedo. The road can be blocked by rockslides or snow when the weather is bad.
