The canyon, also known as Foces del Río Aller, is located in the southern part of Asturias, near the border with Castile and León, in the northern part of the country.

Is the road through Foces del Rio Aller paved?

The road through the imposing gorge created by the karst erosion of the waters of the Aller River is totally paved. It’s called AE-6 road.

How challenging is Foces del Rio Aller?

The drive is extremely challenging due to its narrowness. In parts, it’s totally impassable for 2 cars at the same time, so proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Be careful: this road is not for the sissies. One mistake can have consequences. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. The road was built in 1979.

How long is the road through Foces del Rio Aller?

Tucked away in the central mountains of Asturias, the most challenging part of the tiny road is 3.0 km (1.86 miles) long, running from La Paraya to Ruayer along the Aller River. That road leads up to Puerto de Vegarada.
