If you love to drive, you will love the road to Puerto del Cubillo
Puerto del Cubillo is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.617m (5,305ft) above the sea level, located in the province of Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha, Spain.
Set high in the Serranía de Cuenca mountain range, the road to the summit is totally paved and recently resurfaced. It’s called CU-V-9161. Access to the pass is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters due to dangerous weather conditions. It’s a very funny drive with little traffic.
The pass road is 10.3 km (6.4 miles) long, running west-east from CM-2106 road to the junction with A-1704 and TE-V-9113 roads. North of the pass a minor gravel road climbs up to La Mogorrita, an abandoned ski resort, ending at 1.688m above the sea level.
The climb has been featured in the Spanish Vuelta race. It’s pretty steep, hitting a 10.0% through some of the ramps. Starting from CM2106 road, the ascent is 8.9km long. Over this distance, the elevation gain is 383m. The average gradient is 3.9%.
