Sobrón Canyon road

Sobrón Canyon road, a Spanish hidden gem

Sobrón Canyon road is a very scenic drive running through an incredible landscape, on the boundary between the Basque Country and the province of Burgos, an autonomous community of Castile and León, in northwestern Spain. It’s one of the most scenic canyon roads of Spain.

The road (A-2122 and BU-530) is totally paved running alongside the Sobrón reservoir, on a gorge carved by the Ebro river. The reservoir was built in 1960.

It’s 17.7 km (10.99 miles) long, running west-east from Barcina del Barco (Burgos, Castile and León) to Puentelarrá (Álava, Basque Country). Tucked away between the Montes Obarenes and Sierra de Árcena mountain ranges, the road is narrow in parts but very scenic, with stunning views.
