M541, a narrow mountain road in Madrid
M541 is a very narrow mountain road located in the southwesternmost end of the Community of Madrid in Spain. The drive is pretty challenging and a paradise for bikers.
The road is paved but in very bad conditions. It’s 19.4 km (12.05 miles) long, running south-northeast from Cenicientos, a town in the southwesternmost end of the community to Pelayos de la Presa, located near the San Juan Reservoir. Not recommended to trucks. Little traffic due its narrowness.
Nicknamed as “La Carretera de la Granjilla”, the drive is very scenic and tops out at 869m (2,851ft) above the sea level. The road is typically open all year round, with the occasional closure in winters due to dangerous weather conditions. It’s a steep drive, hitting a 7% through some of the ramps.
