Portarró d'Espot is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.430m (7,972ft) above the sea level, located in the province of Lleida, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, northern Spain. It’s one of the highest roads of the country.
Nestled within the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, one of the fourteen Spanish National Parks, the winding road to the lake is pretty challenging. It’s totally unpaved and closed to private vehicles. 4x4 vehicles. During and after a storm the road may be impassable, even with a four-wheel-drive vehicle. Accessibility is largely limited to the summer season.
The drive provides stunningly beautiful pictures. Starting from the Espot, a town in the comarca of the Pallars Sobirà, the ascent is 13.4km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.098 meters. The average gradient is 8.19%. The summit is a privileged lookout that allows you to enjoy a unique panoramic view of the whole park.
