The track to Covas do Monte is a dangerous curvy mountainous road which rarely permit speeds over 15km/h, located in the mountain range of Serra da Gralheira, in the District of Viseu, Central Inland of Portugal.
This dirt track climbs up to Covas do Monte, a small town in the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, District of Viseu, at 536m above the sea level. Open to all motorized vehicles, however, strongly recommended for 4-wheel drive vehicles. The road is very rough--only try driving it in a 2wd car, if you're planning to buy a new car. The road is really steep. Starting from M559-1 road, the ascent is 3.8km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 241 meters. The average gradient is 6.34% with sections up to 10%. The highest point of the road is at 554m above the sea level.
