Nørdstedalseter

Tucked away at the top of the Fortunsdalen valley, in Western Norway, the narrow road to the cabin is very challenging with hairpin curves, steep climb, altitude and still rock slide hazard. Starting from Fortun, on the Sognefjell National Route, the drive is 24.1 km (14.97 miles) long. It’s mostly unpaved (8.1 km are paved). Built in 1937, the cabin offers stunning views of fjords, mountains, valleys and glaciers.

This road is usually impassable from late October through late June or early July (depending on snow). It’s very steep, hitting a 25% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. Starting at Fortun, the elevation gain is 1328 meters. The average gradient is 5.51%.
