Basera Pass
Passo de Basèra is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 2.040m (6,692ft) above the sea level, located on the French-Italian border between Liguria, Piemonte and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur.
Open to all motorized vehicles, however, strongly recommended for high clearance, 4-wheel drive vehicles. The road is very rough--only try driving it in a 2wd car, if you're planning to buy a new car. The unpaved sections of the road can be impassable when wet. In any case, driving 4WD is recommended due to uneven surface. Along the road there are ruins of numerous military fortresses and artillery batteries used during the 1900’s. Steep, narrow, full of hairpins, the route is partly washed out and bumpy. The rough road to the summit is gravel, rocky, tippy and bumpy at times. The road is usually impassable from October to June (weather permitting). The track is an old military route.
