A wild road to Mont Fallère in the Pennine Alps

Mont Fallère is a high mountain peak at an elevation of 2.377m (7,798ft) above the sea level, located in the Valle d’Aosta region, in northwestern Italy.

Set high in the Pennine Alps, the road to the summit is totally unpaved and usually impassable from October to May. 4x4 vehicle required. The road is closed to private vehicles. The road to the summit is very steep. Starting at Caillet, the ascent is 16.5km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.458 meters. The average gradient is 8.83%.

At the summit there’s a mountain refuge (Rifugio Mont Fallere) and a parking lot. A minor gravel road north of the mountain hut climbs up to Les Crottes, at 2.404m above the sea level.
