How to get by car to the scenic Castello Belvedere in Sicily?
Monte Belvedere di Fiumedinisi is a mountain peak at an elevation of 750m (2,460ft) above sea level, located in the Metropolitan City of Messina, in Italy.

What’s Castello Belvedere?
Located in the region of Sicily, at the summit there’s a castle called Castello Belvedere. It’s a medieval fortress in Fiumedinisi. Originally built in the 12th century, it was expanded by the Normans, who used it as a noble residence. The castle is believed to stand on the ruins of the ancient Siceliot acropolis, linking it to even older civilizations. Through the centuries, Belvedere Castle passed through the hands of powerful families, including the Normans and later the Colonna Romano, each leaving their mark on its history. Defensive walkways, loopholes, and the striking eastern gate with panoramic coastal views highlight its strategic and architectural importance. Although time and vandalism have taken their toll, restoration efforts in 2006–2007 helped preserve parts of its grandeur. Today, visitors can explore its atmospheric ruins, walk along its patrol paths, and imagine the lives of knights and nobles who once inhabited it.
Is Castello Belvedere worth the drive?
The attractive setting and the ruins of the castle are the destination of many tourists. The summit provides stunning views of the Nisi Valley and the Ionian Sea.
How long is the road to Castello Belvedere?
The road to the summit is totally unpaved, very steep (15–20 degree slopes) and rough. A 4x4 vehicle is recommended. Starting from Fiumedinisi, the road is 7.3 km (4.53 miles) long. It can be reached by car if an experienced driver. Go from the north side and follow the road signs; when they end, follow Google and use the road coming from the north.
