Driving the narrow road to Vivione Pass in the Italian Alps
Passo del Vivione is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.836m (6,023ft) above the sea level, located in the Province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy.
Is Vivione Pass paved?
Tucked away on the northern part of the country, the road to the summit is totally paved but extremely narrow (not larger than 2 meters and totally impassable for 2 average cars at the same time). It’s called Strada Provinciale 294 (SP294). If you’re scared of narrow mountain roads, better avoid it.
Is Vivione Pass steep?
The pass has been featured in Giro d’Italia race. The road is very steep, hitting a 12.7% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
Is Vivione Pass open?
This road is usually closed for snow from December to May but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. At the summit is a mountain hut known as Rifugio Passo Vivione, open from May 1st to the end of October, and a small lake.
How long is Vivione Pass?
Set high in the Bergamasque Alps, the pass is 32.2 km (20 miles) long, running east-west from Forno Allione to Schilpario. The road through the pass was built during World War I to supply troops in the nearby Adamello.
