The reservoir, also known as Lake Lappago and Neves-Stausee, is located in the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region, in the Valli di Tures and Aurina valleys, in the northeastern part of the country, near the Austrian border.

The road to the artificial lake amid forested mountains is totally paved. It's called Via Neves. It is very narrow and steep (with sections up to 22%). It ends on a paid car park (summer months). The road is subject to a toll and may not be open all year round depending on the weather.
