A memorable road trip to Lago di Place Moulin
Lago di Place Moulin is a high mountain reservoir at an elevation of 1.968m (6,456ft) above the sea level, located in the Aosta Valley region of northwest Italy.
Starting from Bionaz, the road to the lake is paved. It’s pretty narrow with some steep sections. This is an exquisite winding mountain drive. Most of the drive is on a fairly big road, but there is not much traffic — or many hairpins. It climbs slowly through lots of little villages with nice bespoke town signs that include altitude. The lake is located within the Bionaz valley.
At the lake there’s a rough dirt road leading to Rifugio Prarayer, a high mountain refuge at an elevation of 2.005m above the sea level. It’s gravel and 4.6km long. It’s a good quality gravel road for several kilometres to the far end of this long, slim lake.
