A wild road to San Lucio Pass

Passo San Lucio is an international high mountain pass at an elevation of 1.541m (5,056ft) above the sea level located in the border of Switzerland and Italy, in the Lugano Prealps.

Passo San Lucio

The pass links Val Cavargna (in the Italian province of Como) and Val Colla in the Swiss canton of Ticino. Near the summit of the pass there’s a 14th-century church and some refuge huts.

The road to the summit is a wonderfully panoramic route. The route is never difficult or exposed, however, it gets very steep in the final part. On the Italian side the road to the summit is drivable, but closed to motorized vehicles. It includes some paved and unpaved sections. On the Swiss side there’s a walking trail which can be used by bicycles only.
