When was Lago di Malga Bissina built?
This artificial lake was created by the construction of the Diga di Malga Bissina, a gravity dam with internal cavities designed by engineer Claudio Marcello. Construction began in 1955 and was completed in 1957, with official testing finalized in 1962. The dam blocks the Fiume Chiese river, forming a large reservoir with a capacity of about 60 million cubic meters of water. The lake serves as part of a hydroelectric system, feeding the Malga Boazzo power plant through a network of tunnels and pipelines. Despite being man-made, the lake is surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery, making it a popular spot for hiking and photography in the region.
