An awe-inspiring road to Rifugio Ciareido
Rifugio Ciareido is a high mountain hut at an elevation of 1.957m (6,420ft) above the sea level, located in the province of Belluno (Cadore) in the Italian region of Veneto.
Set high in the Dolomites mountain range, the road to the refuge is mostly paved. It has some narrow parts, so proceed cautiously and hope no other vehicles come from the other direction. Not recommended if you don't know how to reverse. The last 1.0 km is totally unpaved and closed to private vehicles. A 4x4 vehicle is required to reach the hut.
The road to the summit is very steep. Starting at Lozzo di Cadore, the ascent is 14.9 km long. Over this distance the elevation gain is 1.223 meters. The average gradient is 8.20%.
