The pass, also known as Baita Segantini, is located in the Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol region, in the northern part of the country, within the Parco Naturale Paneveggio Pale di San Martino on the ridge between Val Travignolo and Val Cismon.
What’s at the summit of Passo della Costazza?
The summit, with great views of the mountain Cimon di Pala, hosts a restaurant (a shepherd’s cottage where the 19th-century painter Segantini once lived), a little lake known as Laghetto Baita Segantini, and a monument dedicated to Alfredo Paluselli, a singular visionary, mountaineer, and poet inextricably linked to the nearby Baita Segantini, where he spent part of his life in solitude. He died in 1969.
