Lago della Rovina

An awe-inspiring road to Lago della Rovina

Lago della Rovina is a high mountain lake at an elevation of 1.540m (5,052ft) above the sea level, located in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, Italy.

Set high within the Natural Park of the Maritime Alps, the road to the lake, also called Lago della Rovine, is totally paved. It’s called Strada Comunale Rovine. The lake is used as an upper reservoir for the pumped-storage hydroelectric Entracque Power Plant.

The drive is steep, hitting a 12.5% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps. There’s a parking lot at the end of the road. High risk of rock slides. The road is very busy in summers and weekends. Starting at Strada Provinciale S. Giacomo, the road to the lake is 9km long.
